The Summit Award for Council Members
Volunteering for the Southwestern Ontario Chapter of the STC has many benefits, and here is one more.
You could attend the annual international STC conference (The Summit), and get up to $2500 to cover your expenses, if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a volunteer who is a chapter member, and
- You have volunteered for at least one year in the past, and
- You are currently volunteering.
In addition, each candidate also had to agree to:
- Stay at the conference hotel.
- Attend Leadership Day.
- Give a seminar about what they learned.
- Write an article for chapter publication about any aspect of the conference.
Funds from the chapter can be applied to the following expenses, but the total amount cannot exceed $2500:
- Accommodation
- Air fare or other transportation to and from the conference, including transportation from an airport or train station to and from the hotel
- Conference registration, including networking meals
Car rental is not included because you are staying at the conference hotel and a vehicle should not be needed. The winner will have to provide receipts for all expenses to get re-imbursement. Meals are your own responsibility.
The benefits of sending a council member to the conference are:
- The chapter will have a volunteer who is better equipped to serve the membership.
- The whole council will benefit from the collected knowledge.
- The networking opportunities could turn up other people who are useful to the chapter (such as potential speakers).
- The attendee will raise the profile of our chapter on the international stage--be a kind of ambassador.
- Some of the money will be going to the Society.
- We hope to attract more volunteers and chapter members.
Eligible candidates will be identified before the early-bird registration date for The Summit. Candidates have the option of withdrawing from the contest. From those candidates who want to participate, a winner is selected by a random draw. Winners are not eligible for the subsequent draws.
