Judging Exchange!
In September the Twin Cities chapter in Minnesota contacted our chapter about exchanging our competition entries with them. After a brief flurry of email with the Toronto chapter, we agreed to the exchange.
What does this mean?
- The competition deadline has been extended to Friday, October 8, 2004!
- We are now accepting technical art entries. If you would like to submit an entry to the Technical Art competition, please email competition@stc-soc.org for information and an entry form.
- We cannot guarantee that entries will be returned. If you need your entries returned to you, please email competition@stc-soc.org for information about your options.
Exchanging entries with another chapter is a great way for you to get fresh feedback from judges with a new perspective. Enter your work today to take advantage of this great opportunity! Don't hesitate to contact one of the competition contacts if you have any questions about this exchange or the competition in general.
Have you or your company produced technical communication products that you think are worthy of awards? Would you like your work to be recognized by your peers? These are a few reasons why you or your company might want to participate in this year’s STC 2004-2005 Technical Publications and Online Communications Competition.
Who is eligible?
Anyone is eligible to submit entries. You do not have to be a member of STC. You may enter work as an individual or on behalf of a colleague or subordinate.
What can be entered?
Entries in all categories must contain sufficient technical, scientific, medical, or similar content to qualify as technical communication. Entries must have been produced or substantially revised within 24 months preceding September 1 2004. Entries must have been originally prepared and accepted for publication by a client, employer, or publisher.
For additional entry rules, see the competition information package.
How are the competitions structured?
STC competitions recognize and encourage excellence in online communication and technical publications. STC offers two levels of competition:
- Local and regional competitions
- The international competitions
When you submit your work, it will be entered in the regional competition, which is the first level of competition. A regional competition is held by two or more chapters, usually in the same STC region. This year, the Toronto and Southwestern Ontario chapters are teaming up to hold a regional competition for all of southern Ontario.
The international competitions, the international online communication competition (IOCC), and the international technical publications competition (ITPC) are the second and final level of competition. Winners of the Distinguished Technical Communication award in each category of each local or regional competition are automatically submitted to the appropriate international competition.
What awards are given?
At the local or regional level, three levels of recognition are awarded in each competition category. These awards, in descending order, are:
- Distinguished Technical Communication (DTC)
- Excellence
- Merit
One Best of Show award is presented for each competition. Winners of the DTC and Best of Show award in each category qualify for automatic submission to STC's international competitions.
At the international level, the awards structure is the same as at the local and regional level.
