This is my final article to you as your Director-Sponsor. The election is over, the die is cast, and the new Society officers and directors have been chosen. And, I am one of them! I am now the incoming Second Vice President. I approach this role with much excitement, anticipation, and a slight bit of trepidation too. As I assume this role, I must give up my Director-Sponsor role (I have served two years of a three- year term). I cannot hold two elected offices simultaneously. So, at the Annual Business Meeting, held during the conference, I will resign my position as Director-Sponsor and accept / assume the position of Second Vice President. As Second Vice President (or 2VP) I will be the “low link” in the presidential chain, which includes the First Vice President (1VP), the President, and the Immediate Past President (IPP). STC governance is structured such that the 2VP position is the highest elected office. Once elected 2VP, there is an automatic progression to 1VP and then President (and IPP beyond that). This approach is designed to ensure that once a person reaches the role of President, they are highly knowledgeable about STC and experienced in how the board and office function and are therefore able to lead the board and run the Society with a minimum of ramp up required. There will be a special election held just for members in Region 1 to elect a new Director-Sponsor, who will serve for the remainder of my term until the Annual Business Meeting in 2008, so for just about a year. This approach is dictated by New York State law (where STC is incorporated) because I am leaving my position before the specified end of the term of office to which I was elected. Anyone who is interested in running for this Director-Sponsor position should contact Suzanna Laurent (slaurent@prodigy.net), chair of the STC Nominating Committee. Although you will have a new Director-Sponsor soon, please note that the Leadership Community Resource (or LCR) will officially launch on Leadership Day, Sunday May 13. The LCR is STC’s new definitive resource for community leader outreach and support. Come learn what the LCR offers community leaders and how it all will work to ensure that STC communities can become strong, self-sufficient entities, with various levels of support available to them, as required. For more information or to ask questions, please email the LCR Manager, Jackie Damrau, at jdamrau3@airmail.net. The LCR will launch with a few key pieces in place and is expected to evolve over time through its experience in working directly with communities. Please funnel all of your good ideas to Jackie! I have enjoyed my role as your Director-Sponsor and I leave the position with some sadness. I’ve had the good fortune to meet many of you over the past two years and it’s been wonderful! Thank you for all of your work to bring value to STC members through your active participation in your communities! Very Best Regards, Cindy
