by Debbie Kerr, President

The learning doesn't stop with our last general meeting of the year. There are three webinars (seminars offered over the Internet) that we will make available to you between June and August. The cost of these webinars is per location so we host them in one location and have people register to attend. There is no charge for STC members and a $35.00 fee for non-members.

Unlike the general meetings that are held at night, webinars are offered over the lunch period. If you cannot make it to our site, you can register for your own session so that you can view it at your desk or set up a location where multiple people can come and attend at a location that is closer to you. The choice is yours.

Mark your calendars to attend webinars on these great topics!

Cool Tools for Tech Writers for Under $100 (July 16)

Technical writers write, yes-but producing information requires a number of other tools that aren't specifically publishing tools. We need to create and edit graphics, create wikis, and manage knowledge-as well as perform more non-traditional functions, such as creating audio files and icons. We might also need to set up systems for backing up our machines, managing source control of our documents, and bug tracking. This talk will discuss and demonstrate a number of low cost (or free) tools that technical communicators can use to perform a variety of tasks.

Presenter

Nicky Bleiel is a Senior Information Developer at ComponentOne. She has been a technical communicator for more than twelve years. She started her career writing books and producing them in hardcopy format, but she has since embraced online help and user assistance, Web design, single-sourcing, usability, e-learning, and knowledge management.
