by Debbie Kerr, President and Evan Jones, Editor

Once again PEER Group hosted our January council meeting. With seven people in attendance we ate a lot of pizza and covered a lot of topics in a two hour period.

Financial Report

The last record Lori has of receiving a PassThru cheque from Head Office is June 2008. We have since been sent a cheque for the outstanding amount.

Febrauary 3 Meeting

Twenty-four people registered for the February 3 meeting, and since this is being written after the event, I can safely say it was a great success. Thanks go out to Sherry McMenemy, Robin Dube, and Cathy McNair for offering to share their knowledge of DITA and Content Management.

March Meeting (Wine and Cheese)

The Wine and Cheese will be on Tuesday, March 3. We will request that people RSVP so that we can have a better idea about how much food is needed. The DCSA is on its way from Head Office, and the certificates for the Publications and Online Competitions are being prepared. The process is underway to finish the judging for the Student Awards to be presented at the Wine and Cheese.

April Meeting

This meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 8 to see if some people who can't make it to a Tuesday meeting can make it on a Wednesday. The topic is "Life After Technical Writing", which will show people how technical communication can be the stepping stones to other careers.

There are currently no webinars listed on the Head Office website that we can host. Because of the popularity of the "Resume Myths" and "Top 10 Mistakes a Technical Writer Makes in an Interview", these two webinars were offered again to members.

Associate Fellow Award

Patrick Hofmann's nomination has been accepted and he is our newest Associate Fellow. Congratulations Patrick!

Education Days

Everything is on track for the Education Days. We have started to promote it and we have our first registrant.

The Quill

We brainstormed about possible sources of topics that can be used for future issues of The Quill. Members are encouraged to submit their own story ideas or to submit articles to quill@stc-soc.org.

Membership

Laura provided an update about membership. The count now stands at 139, which is an increase over the last couple of months. There is currently a contest to see which STC chapters can get the most renewals. For people who receive this newsletter and have not renewed their membership, don't forget to renew - the sooner the better.

Final Meeting

Ursula suggested that we could have our final meeting at the Huether.
