Upcoming Events

We have a great collection of meetings, topics, and activities planned for this year. Here are a few highlights.

March 3 - Awards

Recognition is something that we all deserve when we do something worth noting. Just saying thanks means a lot. However, for a few special people, just saying, "Good job!" is not enough. We will be giving out student awards, a Distinguished Chapter Service Award (DCSA) and awards to any winners in the technical publications and online documentation competitions.

April 8 - Life After Technical Communication

While some of you may just be getting into the technical communication field, there are others who were in the field for a long time and then branched into other fields. Since technical communicators require such a diverse set of skills, it is a great foundation for stepping into other types of employment. Learn about the benefits of the field and the places it can take you.

May 11 and 12 - Education Days

We have two half-day sessions on May 11 and 12.

Peter Vogel will present on Monday with these two sessions:

• Instructional Design: Introducing Interactivity to Technical Training
• Three Tutorial Styles: Making Tutorials Work for the Reader

Patrick Hofmann will present on Tuesday with these two sessions:

• Visual literacy for technical communicators: Thinking and expressing more graphically
• Visualizing your information: Advanced techniques to make your documents more graphical and usable

Last year we had a movie night to end the STC year. We received a lot of positive feedback about this event, and we hope to come up with something equally fun to do this year.

Web Sessions (Webinars)

Throughout the year, we are also going to provide you with as many opportunities as possible to learn through Head Office's webinars. We check the list of web topics that are posted on the Head Office website, and decide on the ones that we think will provide the most value for our members. As we hear about great webinars, or decide on topics to host, we will post that information on our website.
