The Editor's Message

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new year for the STC - and a (slightly) new look for the Quill!

Speaking of new looks, several new faces have come forth and joined our team over the past few months to keep our chapter running strong. Welcome to Heather Dupuis, the new Program Manager, and Tracy Aitcheson, the new Education Manager. We've also renamed our monthly meetings as "Education Evenings" and decided to go back to some writing basics, as shown with our first Education Evening about editing.

As well, some of you are aware of how the current financial crisis has affected the STC as a whole. Our council, however, has been coming up with several ideas on how our chapter will tackle the problem. We also have several worthwhile upcoming events this season, on top of our annual competitions for both professionals and students.

So whether you're a long-time member or a newcomer, we would welcome an article from you. If you get stuck for ideas, visit http://stc-soc.org/quill/ for a list of possible topics. To submit your article to future publications of the Quill, please contact me at quill@stc-soc.org.

New Southwestern Ontario Chapter Blog

If you are a member of the STC, you should have received some information about the current financial crisis of the Society. The situation is changing rapidly (for a volunteer organization), and to keep you informed in a timely manner, we needed a communication avenue that is more frequent than The Quill, easier to update than the web site, but less intrusive than an email blast. To achieve this end, we've set up a Southwestern Ontario STC blog: http://stc-soc.blogspot.com/. I'll make regular updates as we head in new directions. Feedback is always welcome.
